As I was growing up, my mother ALWAYS said these words to my sister and I, CONSTANTLY! Anytime we did something ‘wrong’, it served as a poignant reminder – ‘Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.’ It was her way of telling us to be careful when choosing our friends. In a way, this is what my interpretation of this Mark Twain quote tells me.
If you ‘hang out’ with ‘small-minded people’ – who spend more time making others feel inadequate and filled with negative vibes; then it is very likely that you won’t be making much progress on ANY level. Whereas, if you ‘hang’ with the more positive and more ambitious-minded people, then the sky is the limit in building your confidence level, ambition and your ability to go places and be a success in your own right.
