Your Health Is Also Your Business And Your Wealth!
As a business owner, you need to remember this one thing – your health is also your business and your wealth! Without health you are in dire straits and needless to say, you won’t be able to take care of your business. You need to have a plan to ensure that there is a balance as well as a correlation between your health and business.
Read the points carefully outlined below in this contributed article and see that it is relevant when you realize that your health is also your business and your wealth.
Wellness Worries: Looking After Your Health as a Business Owner
Running your own business can be one of the best things in the world. Instead of spending your life working for someone else’s dream you get to create your own- you can pour your efforts, passion, and creativity into something that really matters to you.
However it’s not all sunshine and rainbows – it can be incredibly stressful and such hard work especially in the beginning. When you and you alone are responsible for success and failure and such a lot is at stake, it’s easy to overwork yourself and generally put business before health.
You can’t pour from an empty cup, so be sure to take care of your mind and body so that you can give it your all when it comes to business in terms of your health.
Here are some things to consider.
Find a Good Work/ Life Balance
Do you find yourself burning the midnight oil night after night? Is your work day every hour of the day that you’re awake? Do you find yourself working evenings and weekends with no real time off? If you’ve answered yes, you could be heading for burnout.
Damaging yourself physically through exhaustion or mentally is not only bad for your health but will lower productivity too. Actually, having time off can allow you to do much better work as you can get a proper break from what you’re doing and return with fresh eyes.
This can help you to spot any mistakes, as well as helping you to stay focused. Spending all hours of the day on work can also take its toll on relationships too, we all need our support systems around us so don’t neglect loved ones.
You can work hard while still finding a good balance. Set working hours and stick with them. No answering emails while watching TV or typing up reports at the kitchen table. Give yourself at least one day off each week when you can completely switch off and not have to think about work at all.
Having a separate work phone is essential for this if you’re really worried about not being around all day then hire someone to deal with things on your behalf while you’re not there. Use this time for relaxation, having fun and spending time with the people that matter.
In all fairness, one of the reasons you probably want financial freedom is to take good care of your family so don’t forget why you’re doing it all.
Think About Your Diet and Fitness
As a business owner, chances are you will spend a lot of your time each day sitting at a desk. A sedentary lifestyle can be incredibly bad for your health, and so to take care of yourself properly this is something to take into consideration. How about walking or biking to work if your office isn’t too far away, this can get in some light cardio and get your muscles moving.
Spending a couple of hours each week going to the gym or enjoying an active hobby can take your mind off work, lower stress levels and keep your body in shape too. There are even things you can implement in the office which can help, it needn’t cost a fortune either. Check out the cheapest standing desk and look for second-hand deals on things like under desk steppers and pedal machines.
Encourage your employees to use these things too, as well as improving their health can lead to increased productivity, lower restless energy, and reduced pain from sitting in one place. The same applies to your diet – as a busy person perhaps you’re guilty of grabbing convenience foods on the go or snacking on the wrong things at your desk.
Consider meal prepping on the weekend which will make healthy eating easy. Just be aware of your diet and fitness levels, as an entrepreneur you’re busy a lot but don’t want to be putting your business ahead of your health.
Seek Counseling or Advice for Stress
Running a business can be so stressful.
If you run into money worries, have a lawsuit made against you, become a victim or fraud or anything else it can hit you hard. This is your livelihood on the line and something you’ve worked so hard for, so when it feels like its slipping through your fingers you can be left with extreme stress.
Don’t bottle this up, it’s not healthy and you won’t be in the right frame of mind to get your business back on track. Speaking to a counselor or your GP about your stress can be really helpful. Getting access to treatment that works for you, whether it’s therapy, medication or a mixture of the two can be extremely helpful.
With your stress and anxiety under control, you’re in a much better position to make decisions about your business and where to go from there. In some cases, it could be worth taking time off, and taking a step back completely. You could put your business on a short hiatus, or you could hire someone to run it in your absence.
Either way, your mind, and body are the most important things, don’t sacrifice them. Even a short break can mean you’re ready to get back out there and tackle any issues, so don’t feel bad about it.
Avoid dangerous vices such as drinking, smoking, gambling, illegal drugs and other forms of escape to help you to cope with your problems. You will make the situation far worse.
When you run your own business it can consume your life, especially at the start.
Be aware that this can have a negative impact on your life, so looking after yourself is absolutely crucial. You need to realize that your health is also your business and your wealth.
Some simple planning ahead can go a long way, so be sure you’re taking care of your mind, body, and relationships. That way you can put your all into your venture knowing you’re going about it in the right way.

Your so right about taking time out to refresh one’s self, I have noticed that when I start putting in too many late nights working that my production goes down along with the quality. This ends up with me doing more work just to fix things.

Hello Kim,
Thanks for visiting. Yes, I so agree with you – guilty as charged. We need to keep taking care of ourselves and ensuring that we take the time to replenish. It is easy to get caught up in work mode 24/7 without realizing the importance of rejuvenation. All the best and remember to eat, sleep and hydrate yourself and your business.
