After using the free version for about a month, I liked it enough to upgrade.
So the question today is not whether Squirrly is legitimate. It is.
The real question is this:
Is Squirrly SEO still worth using in 2026, especially when tools such as Rank Math, Yoast and other SEO plugins already exist?
Let’s take a fresh look.

What Is Squirrly SEO?
Squirrly SEO is a search-engine optimization platform designed to help website owners improve their content, technical SEO, search visibility and overall website performance.
It is best known as a WordPress SEO plugin, but it combines a WordPress plugin with cloud-based tools and analytics.
Unlike some SEO plugins that mainly give you settings to configure, Squirrly places a strong emphasis on guiding you through the work.
That guidance is one of the things that originally attracted me to the software.
Instead of simply showing you a dashboard full of technical options, Squirrly tries to answer the more practical question:
What should I do next?
How Squirrly Has Changed
The Squirrly I first used was mostly focused on traditional SEO.
It helped with things such as:
- keyword optimization
- SEO scoring
- on-page content guidance
- keyword research
- site audits
- search rankings
Those features still matter, but the platform has expanded significantly.
Squirrly now also focuses on areas such as:
- AI-assisted keyword research
- AI-powered SEO recommendations
- schema markup
- internal linking
- indexing tools
- Google Search Console integration
- Google Analytics integration
- AI-search visibility
- GEO – Generative Engine Optimization
- AEO – Answer Engine Optimization
- LLM indexing support
This is important because search has changed.
People still use Google, but they also increasingly ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and other AI systems for recommendations and answers.
Squirrly is now trying to help website owners optimize for both worlds.
What Is GEO in Squirrly?
One of the biggest changes in Squirrly is its focus on GEO – Generative Engine Optimization.
Traditional SEO focuses on helping search engines discover, understand and rank your content.
GEO goes a step further and focuses on making your content easier for AI systems to discover, interpret, trust, cite and recommend.
Squirrly now includes tools aimed at helping with things such as:
- AI visibility audits
- question-based content research
- internal linking
- custom schema
- LLM indexing
- llms.txt files
- tracking visits from AI answer engines
No SEO tool can guarantee that ChatGPT or another AI platform will recommend your website.
But improving the structure, clarity and accessibility of your content can make it easier for those systems to understand what your site is about.
Squirrly SEO Live Assistant
The SEO Live Assistant remains one of Squirrly’s most recognizable features.
It gives you optimization feedback while you are writing.
This was one of the features I enjoyed most when I first used Squirrly.
As I improved a page, the indicators changed and gave me a quick visual idea of whether I was moving in the right direction.
For beginners, that can be extremely helpful.
SEO often feels complicated because there are so many things to remember.
A live assistant turns that process into a checklist rather than leaving you wondering what you forgot.
Keyword Research
Squirrly includes keyword research tools designed to help you discover topics and phrases people are searching for.
The platform now also uses AI within its research tools to generate additional keyword and topic ideas.
Depending on your plan, you can research keywords, evaluate opportunities and organize them into groups for future content.
This can be useful if you prefer having your SEO research and optimization tools inside one ecosystem rather than paying for multiple separate services.
Focus Pages
Focus Pages is another important Squirrly feature.
The idea is simple.
You select an important page you want to rank better, and Squirrly identifies actions that may help improve that page.
Instead of trying to improve your entire website at once, you can concentrate on a smaller group of priority pages.
I like this approach because SEO becomes much easier to manage when you are working on one meaningful page at a time.
SEO Audits
Squirrly also includes site-audit tools.
These audits are designed to identify technical and content-related SEO problems and show where improvements may be needed.
Depending on your plan, the number of pages included in audits varies.
For smaller websites, the free or lower-cost plans may be enough.
Larger websites and agencies will need higher usage limits.
Rank Tracking
Squirrly can also help monitor how your pages perform in search.
Some plans use Google Search Console data, while higher plans include access to Squirrly’s own SERP checking system.
This distinction matters.
Google Search Console provides average position information, while a dedicated SERP checker can provide more targeted position checks.
Schema and Technical SEO
Squirrly also includes tools for technical SEO tasks such as:
- JSON-LD schema
- XML sitemaps
- redirects
- social metadata
- SEO titles and descriptions
- indexing settings
These are the kinds of features that make Squirrly more than simply a writing assistant.
It can function as a broader SEO management system.
Can Squirrly Work With Rank Math or Yoast?
Yes.
Squirrly says its current GEO tools can work alongside existing SEO plugins such as:
- Rank Math
- Yoast
- SEOPress
This is useful if you already have an SEO plugin installed and do not want to replace your existing setup immediately.
You should still be careful when running multiple SEO plugins, though.
You do not want two plugins creating conflicting titles, schema, sitemaps or other SEO settings.
If you decide to run Squirrly alongside another SEO plugin, follow Squirrly’s compatibility setup instructions carefully.
What I Like About Squirrly SEO
1. The Guidance Is Beginner-Friendly
Squirrly’s strongest quality is still its guidance.
It is designed for users who do not necessarily want to become technical SEO experts.
The tool tries to translate SEO into actionable steps.
That can make it much less overwhelming.
2. The Live Optimization Feedback Is Motivating
This is something I remember clearly from using Squirrly myself.
I enjoyed watching the optimization indicators improve while working on an article.
It turned optimization into something visual and almost game-like.
When I reached a strong optimization score, I felt much more confident hitting Publish.
3. There Is a Useful Free Plan
You can start with Squirrly without paying.
The free plan has limits, but it gives you an opportunity to learn the system and decide whether the workflow suits you.
I strongly prefer software that lets people test the experience before committing to a subscription.
4. It Combines Several SEO Functions
Squirrly can potentially replace several smaller SEO tools.
Instead of using separate services for keyword research, rank tracking, audits, schema and content optimization, you may be able to handle much of that inside one platform.
5. The New GEO Features Are Interesting
SEO is no longer only about blue links in Google.
AI-generated answers are becoming part of how people discover websites, companies and products.
Squirrly’s decision to build GEO and AI visibility tools into the platform makes sense in that environment.
What I Don’t Like About Squirrly SEO
1. There Are A Lot of Features
This is both a strength and a weakness.
Squirrly has many tools, settings and reports.
For beginners, that can initially feel overwhelming.
The guidance helps, but there is still a learning curve.
2. Not Everyone Needs the Full Platform
If all you need is a simple SEO plugin that lets you create titles, descriptions and sitemaps, Squirrly may be more than you need.
Some website owners may be perfectly happy with a simpler tool.
3. Higher-Level Plans Can Become Expensive
The entry-level plan is inexpensive, but Business and agency-oriented options cost considerably more.
Those plans make more sense for people managing multiple websites or using advanced SEO tools professionally.
4. SEO Scores Are Not Google Rankings
This is important.
A high optimization score does not guarantee that your page will rank.
SEO tools measure factors they believe are useful.
Google decides where pages rank.
Use optimization scores as guidance, not as promises.
How Much Does Squirrly SEO Cost?
As of this 2026 update, Squirrly offers several plans.
- Free: $0 per month
- PRO: $9.99 per month
- Web Dev Kit: from approximately $51.20 per month on the standard pricing page
- Business: approximately $71.99 per month
There are also separate agency and higher-capacity packages available.
Prices and promotions can change, so always check the official Squirrly pricing page before purchasing.

Squirrly Free vs PRO
The free plan is aimed primarily at bloggers, beginners and single-site users.
The PRO plan is designed more for:
- small-business owners
- freelancers
- entrepreneurs
- small teams
- people managing several sites
Current plan limits can vary, but PRO generally provides higher limits for:
- websites
- Focus Pages
- keyword research
- site-audit pages
- advanced SEO features
If you are not sure whether you need PRO, start with Free.
That is exactly how I originally approached Squirrly myself.
My Experience With Squirrly
I first used Squirrly many years ago.
I started with the free version and used it alongside another SEO plugin.
What impressed me most was the live optimization guidance.
I genuinely enjoyed seeing those little green indicators appear as I improved an article.
It gave me confidence that I had covered the basic optimization work before publishing.
After about a month of testing, I upgraded.
At the time, I felt the software gave me enough value to justify paying for it.
The product has changed considerably since then, but the part I liked most – guided SEO help – is still central to the platform today.
Who Is Squirrly Best For?
I think Squirrly is particularly well suited to:
- bloggers learning SEO
- small-business owners
- WordPress website owners
- freelance writers
- content marketers
- SEO beginners
- people who prefer checklists and step-by-step guidance
- website owners interested in both SEO and AI visibility
Who Probably Does Not Need Squirrly?
You may not need Squirrly if you:
- already have a complete SEO workflow you are happy with
- only need very basic SEO settings
- do not want another SEO dashboard
- already pay for advanced tools such as Semrush or Ahrefs and use them extensively
- prefer handling SEO manually

Final Verdict – Is Squirrly SEO Worth It in 2026?
Yes, for the right user.
Squirrly remains a legitimate and useful SEO platform, especially for people who want guidance while they optimize their website.
Its biggest strength is not simply that it contains SEO tools.
Its biggest strength is that it tries to tell you what to do with them.
For beginners, bloggers and small-business owners, that can make SEO much easier to understand.
The addition of AI research, GEO tools and AI-visibility tracking also makes Squirrly more relevant now than it was during my original review.
My rating for Squirrly SEO in 2026 is:
4.4 out of 5
I would still recommend the same approach I used originally:
Start with the free version.
Use it for a while.
See whether you actually like the workflow and whether the guidance helps you improve your content.
If you find yourself using it consistently, then consider upgrading.

Have you used Squirrly SEO? Let me know in the comments whether you use the free version, PRO or another SEO plugin.

This definitely looks like something I want to give a try. Sounds like it might be an invaluable tool. Does it help you with key word search then and finding good key words? I ask this because I currently use Jaaxy. If it works similar, than I would not need to have Jaaxy anymore. Looking forward to your answer.
Hello Leahrae,
Thanks for your visit. I am just working my way around Squirrly. It does help you with keyword research similar to Jaaxy. What I really am happy with is the fact that each article that I publish using Squirrly, gets indexed more quickly than before. And this gets me psyched every time.
Give it a try using the free trial and see if its good for you and your content writing.
All the best.
Michelle
I know this might sound funny but the name made me laugh. Whoever came up with it was a genius lol. I am going to try the free version, but it does sound promising so I’m sure I’ll end up doing the monthly for it. Talk about a life savor. Thank you.
Hello there AJ,

Michelle
Hi Michelle,
I love Squirlly it is the best SEO plugin I have used and cannot do without.
It has actually “trained” me so well, now when I write an article I already know ahead of time what it will ask me to do, so I do it beforehand and kinda “test” myself to see if I got all the points right! just something to challenge myself as I blog!
I will definitely upgrade as soon as I can afford it that is for sure =)
Hello Orion,
Thanks for your visit. So glad that you have tried and continue to use Squirrly. I so enjoy the tips that it gives. I just love the color green. And once you upgrade, you will continue to love it as well.
All the best.
Michelle,
I have been a follower of Neil for several years. Most of his input is very highly regarded in the blogging world. I did receive his email on Squirrly, did not act on it at the time. Looks like I should have, I will give it a look and see what it has to offer as most of my post do not rank very well. Can I use this on all of my older post or just on newer post.
John
Hello John,
Thnx for visiting. Yes, I like Neil and his tips. Even if you missed the discount, they have them ‘often’. I would suggest that you try the free version and see how it goes anyway. Yes, I am also using it to update my older posts as well. Lemme know how it goes for you.
Michelle
Michelle,
I have been using the free version of Squirrly for a couple on months now, I have updated several old post with it and it does seem to help with getting my post ranked higher. I am still waiting to get a little ahead in making some money online to go to the premium version.
Note all of the features of the free version last more than a couple of weeks, most of my post do not rank very well with the free version.
I think if I want to get the full potential of this product, I may have to upgrade to the Pro level.
John
Hello John,
Awesome. It is nice to know that you ‘took the plunge’ and tried the free version. It does not compare to the upgrade but for starters, it is a good start. There are sometimes promotions/discounts. Maybe up coming Thanksgiving there might be one and give you an opportunity to make the upgrade. Fingers crossed. All the best.
Michelle
Hi Michelle, great post, I have heard great things about Squirrly, I haven’t started to use it yet, but I am definitely thinking this may be a good tool to implement on our site. Thanks for sharing.

Love those rankings
Hello Vicki,
Thanks for your visit. I am glad that you found the information useful. Be sure to let me know how it turns out for you. All the best.
Michelle
This software sounds amazing Michelle. I can’t think of to many people who wouldn’t benefit from this tool, especially if you’re a blogger or website developer. One question, how long does the free trial last? I think I’ll most likely give it a shot. Thank you for the information cause to be honest I’ve never heard of Squirrly before reading this review.
Hello Florencio,
Thanks for stopping by. It is an amazing tool indeed. I did not hesitate to do the upgrade after only a few articles. The free trial goes for awhile, it is the optimization of your articles that gets limited after 5 or 10 optimizations. Then it encourages you to upgrade to keep optimizing your content. Just try it, I am sure you will like what it does to your content. All the best.
Michelle
Hi Michelle, Many thanks for the great information. This is a tool that I have not heard about before, but by the way you describe it, It seems like I definitely need to download the free version for a trial. I look forward to improved results when I do.
Kind regards
Andrew
Hello Andrew,
Thanks for your visit. Yes, Squirrly is worth taking a look at…and better still, giving the free trial a try. I have not looked back since my upgrade and I love it. It has helped my content writing a lot. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes for you.
Michelle
Thanks Michelle!
I appreciate your sharing your experiences with Squirrly and the detailed explanation of exactly what it does.
My website is fairly new and I don’t have a large budget to try many of the things I’ve seen recommended, but free is definitely in my price range!
All the best, and keep the great reviews coming.
Hello Kyle Ann,
Thanks for your visit and sharing your thoughts. I love your budget and acceptance of the ‘price range’ – too funny. I think you will enjoy testing Squirrly. Be sure to stop by again and let me know how it went.
Michelle
Hey Michelle,

Well Michelle, I can only say thank you very much for this and you have sold this to me easily. This is just exactly what I need at the moment and although I cannot afford to upgrade just yet, I am certainly giving the free version a try. I will certainly let you know how I get on.
Hello Cheryl,
Thanks for your visit and sharing your thoughts. SO glad that you found the information useful. I started off with the free version and it did not take long for me to realize that it was great tool for my toolkit. All the best and do lemme know how it works out.
Michelle
Hi Michele
Thanks for sharing this powerfully and informative review.
I have understood, and I will definitely give it a thought because it will help me in many ways as my site is still in early stage .
Peter
Hello Peter,
Thanks for stopping by. I am happy that you found the article useful. Yes, I love Squirrly and it has become my American Express – I never write without it. All the best.
Michelle
Hi Michelle. I am just trying out the free version. I see that the key phrases I chose recently using Jaaxy come up per squirrly as very hard to compete. That’s alarming!
Hello Diane,
Thnx for your visit. That’s interesting. I also noticed that there can e some discrepancy between the two. However, I make an informed decision using both tools. Just play around with it till you find your own ‘mojo’. All the best.
Michelle
This is a great review of Squirrly. Kind of a funny name, isn’t it? I’ve never heard of it so I’m glad I got to read your review. I’m using Yoast and really like it, but I’ll definitely be checking Squirrly out as well! Thank you Michelle!
Hello Holly,
Appreciate your kind words. Yes, it is a very interesting word for a software. Yes, you should try it as well, both software can work well together. I use Yoast as well. All the best.
Michelle
Hi Michelle I wanted to update to add that so far more keywords I found from Jaaxy are matching what I find on Squirrly now. That’s encouraging.
Awesome, Dianne.
Glad that its working better for you. Continued success.
Michelle
Hi, Michelle.
If this Squirrly is as good as the impression I’m getting, then it’s one sound investment.
I have been after investing in high-end SEO tools for a while, but at this point in time there is no way on Earth I can even get close to tools like SEMrush, BuzzSumo or Moz, let alone all of them, and much more, for such a very attractive price of $29.99 per month.
I will most certainly give this a shot as I’m dying to find out if it’s as good as your article says it is, which at this point, I’m quite convinced it is. I’ll have a crack at the free version first, just to get the hang of it, then I’ll take it from there.
Many thanks for such a brilliant write-up, Michelle…and keep it up.
James
Hello James,
Glad that you found the article useful. I agree with you. You can end up spending a bunch of moolah on software for your internet business and still not getting where you need to be. I bought the upgrade after a few written articles because I saw the difference in the results. And so did Google.
Do let me know how it goes once you get started. All the best.
Michelle
