Shopify Overview
Shopify is a Canadian e-Commerce company which has its base in Ottawa, Ontario. Its main job is creating software for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems. It was created in 2004 by a group of young men –Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake when Tobias tried to launch his own line of snowboarding equipment and came upon a hard wall. He then decided along with his partners to make his dream a reality. It wasn’t until 2 yrs later, 2006 when Shopify was born.
Over the last couple of days, I decided to hold off writing this review and actually go and test the trial period being offered by Shopify. This gives much more ammunition to write my article. SO let’s begin.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Good:
- the initial setup and creating a shop was a breeze
- there is a great archive for support if you need information
- the live support is 24/7 – I actually tried it and got a response
- the walk-through is fairly easy to understand
- the process is well structured
- after the trial, I consider the pricing options reasonable
- it ‘pumps’ up your adrenaline to get things ‘started’ and move out of your comfort zone and be confident in yourself
- you can easily customize your online store
- you are able to add new sales channels within seconds
- you can manage unlimited products and inventory
- orders can be easily processed
- you can track your sales and growth trends using their tools
The Bad:
- navigation on the site is easy, however, I found that you needed a little more computer techno knowledge to make a big headway
- you have to choose a niche and name for your store and in the time period, it makes you lock in a choice that might not be truly synonymous with you in the long run
The Ugly
- Well, this one is easy – I have not found any as yet. My trial period is still going on at the time of my writing this review.
Who is Shopify For?
In my opinion, Shopify is for anyone who has a taste for creating his or her own online business. It is a platform to help people realize their dreams – and to do so, within an affordable budget.
Shopify is for the newbie and the technologically advanced alike. Once you take the time to research, read, and listen to the resources provided by the site, you will easily be able to get things rolling.
The key to your success as well as that of your online business is consistency and following the training information provided.
Shopify Tools & Training
I am very impressed with the tools and training provided by Shopify – fantastic. I am not a newbie to the internet world on a whole, and I must say that the information available in their archives is really worth the price of the membership or the monthly fee that you will pay to keep your shop ‘live’.
There are even videos available for viewing on Vimeo. This is especially great for those of us who would prefer to listen, watch hands on versus reading. Depending on how you join the program, there is even a weekly teaching/training call by any one of the mentors on board the program.
Shopify Support
Shopify offers its clients support via online chat, email, as well as operator call. There is also a very active community forum and Facebook page where you can interact with other members. There is also a blog where you can read archived blog posts as well as current updates.
Shopify Pricing
There are various levels of pricing within this program, as you can see from the chart below:
In addition to the above plans, you can also choose ShopifyPlus and ShopifyLite.
Of course, as with anything else, the levels are dictated by the features available to each level. Take a look at the chart below:
My Final Opinion of SHOPIFY
Speaking from my current experience, I give Shopify a ‘two thumbs up’! So far so good. I think that is a great way to get your feet wet to create your own online business and see how things will work. And most importantly, not ‘breaking the bank’ while you are at it.
Why don’t you give it a try? I would love to hear your feedback about your success!
So far so good.
I am still populating my store with products and then I will work on advertising using FaceBook to start and then finally open my store…I am excited.
Also, I recommend you take a look at my Wealthy Affiliate Review as well, another great source to get your passion turned into a successful online business. Much success to you.
