[List]3 Abandoned Cart Strategies To Recover Lost Sales
Research states that 69.82% of online shopping carts are abandoned on all e-commerce platforms. That means for every 10 buyers who add an item to the shopping cart, only about 3 of them complete their purchases, leaving about 7 abandoning theirs.
While it’s an easy decision for the buyer, abandoned carts are a nightmare for ecommerce stores as they lose $18 billion in potential sales revenue every year. Most retailers have focused mainly on preventing or minimizing cases of abandoned carts, but you can use several recovery strategies to convert those carts into completed sales. Here are three of those strategies.
Use chatbots
Whenever you receive feedback about cart abandonment, you can use chatbots to motivate buyers to complete their checkouts. While several reasons are responsible for shoppers abandoning their purchasing processes, sometimes the best way to know exactly why is to ask them. Of course, asking each customer why they failed to complete their purchases can be very tiring and time-consuming. That’s where chatbots come in.
All you have to do is trigger the chatbot whenever you receive a notification that a customer hasn’t completed a purchase. You can find out the particular reason a customer has from the chats and offer the right solutions that will encourage them to complete their purchases.
You can also use chatbots to offer real-time assistance to shoppers, ensuring that they face no issues during their shopping and purchasing processes.
Add a dedicated cart recovery plugin to your site
If your e-commerce platform allows it, consider adding a dedicated recovery plugin to your site. This feature is the reason why platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce are so dominant – keep in mind that 61% of Shopify’s stores dominate the e-commerce market. So, what’s behind their preference and dominance? On the side of the seller (which is you), these platforms offer almost everything you need when it comes to essential plugins. There are great plugins and apps for almost everything your site needs to be successful.
With Shopify, for example, you’ll find almost 560 different abandoned cart recovery apps and plugins. All of them are designed to help you reduce the number of shopping carts that haven’t gone through the purchasing process, allowing you to increase your sales. They send automatic reminders to shoppers who have left their carts behind. Plus, many of these plugins are free to use.
Use exit intent pop-ups
Exit intent pop-ups are some of the most effective abandoned cart recovery strategies. They appeal the most or work best on shoppers who already intend to buy the items in their carts but are stalling or focusing on other things on your site.
An exit intent pop-up is usually triggered when a shopper moves their cursor away from the cart, navigates towards the top of their screen, and clicks on it. The pop-up will capture their attention, usually with a compelling offer they can’t refuse. You can craft custom messages that will resonate with your buyers to display on your pop-up and convince a shopper to return to their carts and complete the purchasing process.
