Quick and Easy Mood Boosts[List] To Try!
Want some quick and easy mood boosts to improve your day? Read on. Most of us struggle with our mood from time to time. Sometimes, it’s hormonal. Our levels spike or drop, and we hit a low mood. We feel sad, and we don’t even always know why. Other times, it’s fatigue. It’s hard to keep your spirits up, or even level, if you are exhausted and struggling enough to complete your tasks.
Stress plays a big part in our moods too. Most of us are busy, we’re trying to work, clean, look after our families and keep on top of other responsibilities, we’re tired, we need a break, and it’s hard to stay happy.
Stress plays a big part in our moods too.
Of course, other factors are affecting our moods too. The weather, our personal situation, issues at work, financial concerns, and health problems can all play a role, and it’s no wonder that so many of us struggle with mood swings and drops.
If you are really struggling with your mood, you might want to try to make some significant lifestyle changes, and spend some time trying to get to the root of your issues.
You might even want to speak to your doctor about how you are feeling. But, small mood swings now and then, or afternoon drops when we’re a little tired are entirely normal, and there’s plenty of things that you can do to give yourself a quick boost.
Take A Nap
Tiredness is a leading cause of negative moods. Everything seems harder when you are tired. It’s not always possible to take a nap, but if you get the chance, go for it. Even a ten-minute power nap in the afternoon can make you feel much better.
Get Up Earlier
When you get up late, you start your day in a rush. That’s when things tend to go wrong, and it’s hard to recover your good mood. So, go to bed earlier and set your alarm a few minutes earlier so that you can take your time.
Enjoy A Healthy Snack
If you get tired in the afternoon, reaching for the biscuit tin can be the obvious solution. But, while you might get a quick sugar rush, it won’t last, and the sugar crash could be awful. Instead, grab a healthy snack like a fruit salad that will give you a natural high, without the horrible sugar crash.
Cook More
Your diet can have a significant impact on your mood. Overeat unhealthy and fatty foods, and you’ll feel lethargic and sluggish. Cooking can be a great way to have more control over what you eat, as well as a mood-boosting hobby on its own.
Do Things That You Enjoy
It might sound obvious, do things that are worth doing and do things that make you smile, and you’ll be happier. If you are in a long-term slump, finding a new hobby that makes you happy, or something that lets you help others, can make you happier. For a quick fix, go for a walk, practice an exercise that you enjoy, or speak to someone that makes you smile.
Be Nice to People
Every time you do something for someone else, you’ll get a little confidence boost and make you feel good about yourself. Hold the door open for someone, compliment a stranger, offer to help a friend at work, or carry someone’s bag. Tiny acts of kindness throughout the day can be a massive mood boost.
Spend Time With People That You Love
Stop spending time with, or on, people that don’t make you happy. Instead, find people that you love, that make you laugh and that say nice things. These people make you feel good about yourself, and you should give them as much of your time as you can.
Build A Playlist
Music can be a powerful tool. Sad music can make you feel sad and bring back upsetting memories. Happy tunes can make you smile. Build a mood-boosting playlist that brings back the right memories and makes you feel light and happy, play it when you need to.
Watch Your Favourite Movie
Movies, like music, can make us feel. But, they can also be great escapes. If you need some time out, to get away from your own thoughts and feelings, put on a good film, or read a book, and lose yourself.
Catch Up With An Old Friend
Most of us are too busy to see all of our friends and family as often as we would like to, and it’s easy to lose touch. If you need a quick mood boost, send an old friend a message, or arrange to meet for coffee.
Using any of these mood boosts should alleviate your mood – for sure. My favorite of all the suggested mood boosts is music – creating that playlist. Nothing like a few tunes to get me ‘in the groove’ and out of a ‘funk’. How about you?
